Groups in Philippines

The Philippines is a culturally diverse country with an estimated 14- 17 million indigenous peoples belonging to 110 ethno-linguistic groups. They are mainly concentrated in Northern Luzon and Mindanao, with some groups in the Visayas area.

Tebtebba

Tebtebba (Indigenous Peoples’ International Centre for Policy Research and Education) is an indigenous peoples’ organization born out of the need for heightened advocacy to have the rights of indigenous peoples respected, protected and fulfilled worldwide. It also advocates and works on the elaboration and operationalization of indigenous peoples’ sustainable, self-determined development.

The Samdhana Institute

The Samdhana Institute - an Asian Centre for Social and Environmental Renewal - is a community of practitioners: conservationists, development practitioners, and human rights activists. Their vision is for a region where natural, cultural and spiritual diversity are valued and environmental conflicts are resolved peacefully, with justice and equity for all parties.

LifeMosaic parters with Samdhana to strengthen leadership and popular education in Indonesia.

In the Philippines, Samdhana works with the Indigenous Peoples, supporting their initiatives to secure and develop their ancestral domains, strengthen indigenous and traditional political structures and governance, nurture local leadership, and protect their natural ecosystems and the environment.
