A seminar on indigenous education from international perspectives, with the theme ‘Effective practice, mutual learning’ and organised by DEST with the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) was held in Cairns on 14–15 May 2007. Education ofﬁcials from Canada, Chile, Mexico, New Zealand, the United States of America, Australia and the OECD met to share approaches that are improving the educational outcomes of indigenous peoples. The content of the Seminar provided an excellent opportunity to reﬂect on common issues and new ideas from across the globe.
